Opening Sequence Research

My Chosen Film Medium

The film medium that I have chosen for an opening film sequence is psychological thriller. I am working in a pair with Laura so we can share our ideas and put our ideas together to get the best possible result. For the first part of our research we watched a variety of different horror/thriller film opening sequences to get some ideas for our own opening sequence.

Opening Sequence Research

This is a picture of opening shot from the TV programme'Six Feet Under'. We are going to use this as an idea of the opening shot for our opening film sequence. The opening shot is going to be of the sky with the film studio that we chose then it will go into an establishing shot of the house that where we are going to film our opening sequence. Click here to watch the opening sequence of Six Feet Under

We then also watched the opening sequence to 'to kill a mockingbird'. We were inspired by the sequence and then came up with the idea of how the title would be shown in ours. The main character in our film sequence will be drawing a picture of a field by the woods and the name of the film will be shown in the middle of the picture that she has drawn.  Click here to watch the opening sequence of To Kill A Mockingbird

This is a shot that is taken from the opening sequence of the TV programme 'Dexter'. In the opening sequence to has a lot of extreme close up shots that I think a very effective. We can use the idea in our own film opening sequence to make it more effective. Click here to watch the opening sequence of Dexter

Also in the opening sequence of 'to kill a mockingbird' there is a girl in the background humming, we like the affect of the girl humming and are going to consider using this idea of the girl humming in our film opening sequence because we think it is quite effective it shows the little girls innocents but on the other hand it sounds eery at the same time.
